From June 1st through June 16th, 88 pianos (one for each key on a instrument) are being placed throughout NYC’s five boroughs by the non-profit organization Sing for Hope. Formally known as Pop Up Pianos, the project’s creators were driven by the vision of “Art for All” and engaged a select group of artists to customize their own unique piano to be a part of the public art installation.
As part of an effort to promote the organization’s efforts , yogurt brand and Sing for Hope supporters Chobani showed off one very special piano, Stanley, in front of their flagship store in SoHo last Friday.
Created by the creative agency Digital Kitchen, Stanley is an interactive piano that takes music requests via Twitter. Using the Twitter handle @stanleypiano, users could tweet a song they would like Stanley to perform and it would be added to a queue. When Stanley is about to perform a song, a notification is sent out to the person who made the request via Twitter, inviting them to listen to a live stream of the track. The piano can also take requests in person, allowing passersby to request songs without the need to login to their social media accounts.
