Semi-finalist in the Electrolux Design Lab competition, Alexandr Kostin’s concept bracelet, the Hand Tree is a wearable filter that cleans the air surrounding a person. Kostin believes that if everyone wears his invention, we will have an army of mobile air purifiers cleansing the Earth.
The Hand Tree is made from a bioplastic shell and a fake leather bangle, which feels comfortable against the skin. It contains a changeable carbon filter, a chargeable batter and an OLED screen. The logo changes color in response to the condition of the filter and a light on the shell indicates the air quality. The concept is inspired by the natural air purification system of plants, taking in contaminated air and returning clean air. The wearer even has the option to insert a perfumed capsule, so their personal space can be fragrant.
The developer believes his invention could make serious inroads against air pollution. Says Kostin:
Combining millions of personal air purifiers we can achieve the image of living in a forest. If every inhabitant in a big city would wear such a device, we would be all to breathe easily in a smoggy air.
