SHARING AMERICA'S TECH NEWS FROM THE VALLEY TO THE ALLEY

Brooklyn Tech, Triangulated

By Gus Delaporte via commercialobserver

1CO2000A0625The Brooklyn Tech Triangle Coalition has set its sights on overtaking Silicon Valley as the nation’s largest tech hub, and a strategic plan issued last week has outlined how it can be done. The area, comprising the Dumbo, Brooklyn Navy Yard and Downtown Brooklyn neighborhoods, is projected to support 18,000 tech-related jobs in the next two years, but a lack of commercial and industrial space to support the industry could stifle growth.

The coalition, made up of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the Dumbo Improvement District and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, is aiming to solve the problem. If the Tech Triangle plan is fully implemented, tech and creative businesses could occupy up to four million square feet of space in the area by 2015. Part of the initiative includes activating key buildings for use by tech companies, including the 700,000-square-foot Watchtower Property on Sands Street, 200,000 square feet of office space at Empire Stores in Dumbo and 1.2 million square feet of commercial space surrounding Cadman Plaza.

Below, a few key statistics from the report.
