SHARING AMERICA'S TECH NEWS FROM THE VALLEY TO THE ALLEY

We’ve raised $3.8M from Accel Partners to expand Pixate’s products and services

Today we’re announcing our Series A round, and we’re super excited about it!
Kevin and I started Pixate just about one year ago today with the goal of making native app development as easy and dynamic as web apps. CSS wasn’t part of the original plan, but designers and developers alike asked us for it. They wanted a simple, familiar way to quickly iterate through their app designs, without spending countless hours in Photoshop or Xcode. We launched Pixate 1.0 for iOS just this past January, and with all the interest and demand from our users, demand exceeded our capacity to the point that both development and support started to slow, and the last thing we want is to slow down. We have so many ideas for the future, that there was really only one course of action, raise money and really go for it. pixate-scrn-01-620x459[1]Accel Partners is a world class venture firm. I just have to mention a few of the companies they have invested in — Facebook, 99designs, Angry Birds (Rovio), Dropbox, Aptana, and Etsy — to see what an incredible organization Accel is. (Ok, Aptana was my last company, but you can’t argue with the rest. ;-)). We’re super excited to have them on board.

So what are we going to do with the money, here are the items that are at the top of our list:

  1. Increase the quality of our support and dramatically improve our samples, documentation, guides, and everything else a developer or designer might need to be successful with Pixate.
  2. Release Pixate Engine for FREE! Yes, the full version is now freely available to all for any use, commercial or otherwise. We now offer an optional paid support plan for those who need it.
  3. Aggressively hire to expand our team across engineering and support to bring you Android and Mac versions of Pixate as soon as possible.

There’s obviously a lot more, but these are our top priorities.

Today we are also launching Pixate Labs. Labs will be the place where we will publish beta versions of Pixate as well as prototypes and experiments of other technologies and projects. We are really excited to show you some of the ideas we’ve been thinking about.

We want to thank all of our current users, all of our original Kickstarter backers, our initial investors (Y-Combinator), and our new investor, Accel Partners, in believing in us. The best part… this is just the beginning!
